Support UIC Housing Staff's Union Fight

Housing Staff United (HSU) is a union of undergraduate housing employees at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) that has been organizing since 2023. In January 2025, HSU went public and submitted a petition for one union of Resident Assistants, Peer Mentors, Leadership Assistants, and Desk Staff with OPEIU Local 39. This would be the first union of undergraduate public employees in Illinois.

The University challenged our right to form a union and we have been through a lengthy legal process with the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board (IELRB). Our union has had to spend tens of thousands of dollars to press the fight and to secure the right of workers like us to organize in Illinois.

We need your help with mounting legal fees and to help fund our continued organizing. Any money we raise will go directly toward paying the attorneys our union has hired in our case at the (IELRB). If there are funds left over, the remainder will be kept in a bank account dedicated to union organizing and saved for relief during future actions.

Funds determined to have come from private sector employers or donated anonymously will have to be returned to the donor.
