Welcome to the Office and Professional Employees International Union Local 39
The Office and Professional Employees International Union are office, technical and professional employees working together to improve our jobs and the lives of our families. OPEIU is the first, and largest, labor union in the United States and Canada dedicated to professional, technical and office workers. Local 39's organization begins with its members. We represent over 3,000 professional, technical and clerical employees in the greater Madison, WI area.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to evolve with each passing day, OPEIU wants to ensure its members are made aware of the myriad resources available to help during this uncertain time. The Speaker of the House, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (Calif.), just released an easy-to-follow primer on what the first three coronavirus stimulus packages mean for you and your family.

As noted in the last newsletter, a Supreme Court Primary election is happening on Tuesday, February 20th. That's TOMORROW. This is a great opportunity to start shifting the balance of the Wisconsin Supreme court back to something resembling fairness. The two top vote-getters in tomorrow's primary will move on to the general election. Tim Burns and Rebecca Dallet are our best choices. The other candidate not only has the backing of the NRA but he helped defend Governor Walker's Act 10 against lawsuits when that union-busting law went into effect.

You may have heard by now: 2018 is an election year! The stakes for our state are incredibly high this year. Labor and workers have several opportunities to start shifting the state away from the anti-worker policies of the last several years.

In fact, if you live in northwestern Wisconsin, your first chance to vote is in a special election Tuesday! For the rest of us, our first opportunity comes in February with the Supreme Court Primary. A general election for that seat happens in April (more below). A primary election for the Gubernatorial race happens in August and the November general election will see that race decided as well as a Senate race, not to mention all the usual local, state, and federal races. There's a lot to keep track of, so bookmark this page
